Club History

In 2024, our club celebrates its 50th Anniversary as a Western Australian Calisthenics Club. We are incredibly proud of this milestone and the fact that we remain a vibrant and successful club after so many years. Our success is thanks to the dedication of our many coaches and volunteers over the past five decades.

West Coast Calisthenics Club originated from the Hamersley Calisthenics Club, founded in 1970 by Coach Debbie Craig and Assistant Coach Susan Choules. In 1975, Debbie Craig could no longer coach at Hamersley due to her commitments at another calisthenics club in Wembley. Susan Choules then took over as Head Coach, and the club was renamed West Coast Calisthenics Club, reflecting its training location at Charles Riley Hall in Trigg and its growing membership from Perth's northern coastal suburbs

The first coaches at West Coast were Susan Choules, Lynne White and Gaye Munckton (nee Parker).  Teams at the West Coast club initially competed in the Novice section of the State Calisthenics competitions.  They placed well and won several sections, elevating themselves into the Championship section (now known as A Grade) in a short space of time. The club has maintained its A grade status ever since and remains one of WA's top performing clubs.
